Just Peachy
“Just Peachy” event
Spotlights August as Jersey Peach Month
For Immediate Release
August 2009
South Jersey... It’s all about the peach and nothing but the peach.
The New Jersey Peach Promotional Council has named August “Jersey Peach Month” and in honor of this home grown fruit, the five chefs who make up SJ Culinary Events will hot a 3 day event called “Just Peachy” to showcase the many ways to cook, prepare and enjoy Jersey peaches. Participating chefs are members of SJ Culinary Events: Chef Joe Palombo (Mirabella Café), Chef Rich Marsh (Andreotti’s Viennese Café), Chef Mark Smith (The Tortilla Press), Chef Alex Capasso (Blackbird) and Chef Jim Malaby (blueplate, Mullica Hill). They will be joined by three other area restaurants: Bistro Di Marino, Dream Cuisine and High Street Grill
The SJCE member chefs will begin with a cooking demonstration kickoff at the Collingswood Farmers Market on Saturday, August 1st . Then on August 4 through August 6h, the chefs will host a three (3) course menu for $25.00/person at each of their restaurants, spotlighting Jersey peaches in each and every course. “We’re going to show this fruit’s tremendous versatility,” explains Chef Alex Capasso of Blackbird. “When peaches are in season they’re a great way to dress up a meal and create something really special.”
The “Just Peachy” event is priced at $25.00 to attract consumers who are eager to try out New Jersey’s bountiful harvests at a value packed price. “It’s part of our ongoing effort as a group to create more awareness of farms and farmers in this part of the state,” explains Tortilla Press Chef Owner Mark Smith “and to bring the freshest possible foods from the fields to our tables.”
The five chefs will participate in cooking demonstrations with peaches at the Collingswood Farmers Market on Saturday, August 1st. They’ll be joined by the NJ Peach Council and New Jersey’s Peach Queen. “We’ll offer recipes and tastings,” says Capasso. “It will be a great way to kick off our event for the following week.”
